What is a Portable Appliance Test?

A Portable Appliance Test is a process of checking electrical appliances for safety through a series of visual inspections and electronic tests.

Why do I need to have my appliances tested?

The best way of ensuring that your appliances are safe is to have a test carried out on them. This is a good way for businesses to ensure that they are meeting their legal obligations to maintain high standards of electrical safety in their buildings.

What does it involve?

To establish the safety and suitability of your electrical appliances we will carry out a visual inspection of the appliance. For Class [1] equipment we will also inject test signals into the cable and appliance to ensure their integrity.

Upon completion testing you will receive a report that details the following as a minimum: 1) A report containing each appliance type, name, location and description 2) A full set of test results for each appliance tested 3) A full list of any failed items with an explanation of their failure 4) A visible pass or fail label on each appliance detailing the inspection date, next test due and the inspector’s signature.

What we do!

Our fully qualified engineers will visit your establishment and first carry out a thorough visual inspection of your appliances upon several electrical tests.

These tests can include Earth Continuity, Insulation Resistance and Substitute Leakage depending on the appliance.

If the appliance passes these tests a unique asset number will be attached showing the month and year it was tested and the old label will be removed, we wont stick label upon label to your appliances. We will leave it looking as neat as possible.

Should the appliance fail it will be logged and labelled with a red “Do Not Use” label and the duty holder informed.

After all of the appliances have been tested the engineer will return to one of our offices to download the results using our tailored software which will produce a fully itemised detailed report. This will show each individual test result for each appliance.
